In 2010, the Genetics Laboratory and Services
(GLS) has been included under AIA’s structure. GLS is one of the most advanced
laboratory in Italy serving the Italian livestock sector with its support activities
in the animal selection and the herd books of on farm animals. GLS headquarters
is located in Cremona. The laboratory is equipped with the most modern
technologies for molecular testing. In
addition to the study of DNA family relationships, GLS can provide several services:
genotyping with molecular markers at medium and high density, genetic traceability
of meat and cheese, analysis of genes influencing the quality of milk and meat
products, analysis of genes responsible for the genetics disease, control of
the presence of meat-and-bone meal in animal feed. GLS is certified by ACCREDIA according to UNI
CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 and is a member of ISAG (International Society for Animal
Genetics), an international organisation that provides the reference standard
for all genetics laboratories around the world. GLS is actively involved in projects
oriented towards the development of new methodologies in molecular genetics
applied to zootechnics, in collaboration with national and international research
centres.
